Here's some frequently asked questions regarding how to care for your carpet.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to call or email to ask. Acorn Carpet Cleaning is delighted to help and offer our advice.

Q. How often should I have my carpets cleaned?

A. Most manufacturers recommend that carpets are professionally cleaned by a qualified technician every 12-18 months. Carpets should be cleaned on a regular basis and before they become heavily soiled. Allowing soil to build up will significantly reduce the life of a carpet.

Q. I have a spillage on my carpet, is there anything I can try before calling a professional?

A. Whilst it is highly recommended that a professional cleaner is used there are of course many items available to the public that are advertised for carpet and upholstery cleaning, some of which may well do the trick on a small, water based, spillage. However when it comes to the really tricky stains we all know these products just don't cut it. If you have a small spot you want cleaned, and not your whole carpet, then just get in touch and we can come round and remove it for you, no problem!

Q. How much do you charge?

A. Pricing will vary depending on many factors including the length of time the work will take, the size of the area needing cleaned and the level of soiling in the carpet or upholstery. There are a host of other factors that also must be taken into account but we always provide you with the most competitive quote we possibly can whilst still offering a great service that is worth the cost to the customer. We always like to view the carpets or upholstery in person before providing a quotation but we can give you a rough estimate over the phone if this is what you need. We have a range of packages that cater to almost any budget so don't ever be afraid to call!

Q. What are the differences between the methods of cleaning and which method is best?

A. All cleaning methods are designed to produce good results and each has its place within the industry. Some methods use more water and others more mechanical action. More important however, is whether the employed technician has the required training to carry out the cleaning properly and safely. We have a recognised qualification in carpet and upholstery cleaning and have been trained on the use of all cleaning methods. We will be able to advise on the most appropriate method, or combination of methods, for your situation.

Q. Will my carpets re-soil quicker following cleaning?

A. Today’s chemicals and detergents are manufactured to the highest specifications for quality and effectiveness. As professional cleaners, we will only use detergents designed for the removal of soil from carpets and upholstery and, when used correctly, these will not lead to any rapid re-soiling. Detergents that are not designed for use on carpets and upholstery may cause re-soiling problems.

Q. Do you use chemicals to clean?

A. In all forms, the best cleaning results are achieved by the use of chemicals. We may use solvents, powders, detergents and other solutions during the cleaning process. Manufacturers in the cleaning industry work to the highest specifications for quality and safety, designing products specifically for the cleaning of carpets and soft furnishings; and for safe use within the domestic environment. If you have asthma or are chemically sensitive, we may be able to use specialist chemicals designed to avoid causing any discomfort. We also offer environmentally friendly services with specific ‘Green’ cleaning products.

Q. I have children/pets, will they be affected by cleaning processes/chemicals?

A. Health and safety is of paramount importance in the cleaning industry. Professional cleaning solutions are tested for their effects on the environment and occupants of areas in which they will be used. We will also ensure that the relevant safety procedures are followed during the cleaning process. It is highly recommended that children and pets stay off of a damp carpet until it is completely dry, this will help prevent slip and fall hazards as well as tracking in fresh soil.

Q. How long will my carpet or furniture take to dry and how soon will it be back in use?

A. Drying time depends on many conditions, including how soiled the item was, how much water was used, weather conditions, indoor atmosphere, etc. However, in most normal cases, carpets and soft furnishings should be dry within 6-8 hours. If drying is a concern mention it to us and we will be able to advise on drying times and, if required, use some specialist techniques to speed up the process. Please note that there is usually an extra charge for this service.

Q. Is there a risk of shrinkage?

A. If a carpet is properly installed, it is very rare that the cleaning process will cause it to shrink. We will carry out a full inspection prior to any cleaning and test for potential problems such as shrinkage.

Q. Will all the stains come out?

A. No guarantee can be made that any particular stain will be removed. Some stains permanently damage the carpet fibres and no amount of specialist cleaning will reverse this. We have received advanced training for spot and stain removal and will be able to deal with most problems. If you have a stain you are concerned about, discuss it with us beforehand and we will be happy to advise. We will always let you know before hand if we don't think we can remove a particular stain.

Q. Will professional cleaning affect the protector on my carpet/will it need to be re-applied afterwards?

A. It is important to note that a protector will wear off of any carpet that is in use. Walking, vacuuming, general wear and cleaning will all have an effect on this. Carpet protectors shield the fibres, they are designed to prevent spillages, dropped items and other general wear affecting the carpet directly. However, in doing so it will lose some of its effectiveness and should be re-applied on a regular basis to ensure continued protection.

Q. Do I have to move furniture?

A. Not if you don't want to. It's up to you whether you would like to have the furniture removed from the room you are looking to have cleaned or if you would like to have it remain and be cleaned around. If you would like the room cleared of furniture before the cleaning process begins then our staff are more than happy to do this for you. There is no additional charge for this service unless the time taken to remove the furniture is incredibly long, however we are yet to charge a customer for this service as of yet. The only piece of furniture we will not move are television sets.

Q. Do carpet-cleaning companies have to be registered with the National Carpet Cleaners Association?

A. No, it is not mandatory for carpet cleaning companies to become members of the NCCA. Whilst we would never say a company outwith the NCCA cannot be trusted it is a good parameter for knowing the kind of business you are dealing with. Joining the NCCA involves all staff members going through training and tests to ensure that each and every staff member knows exactly how to deal with any and all jobs put in front of them as well as knowing what chemicals can cause damage to particular types of material. If a company is not part of the NCCA they might have no formal training what so ever, may not do a job that upholds industry standards or even worse they could ruin your carpets and upholstery. This is why we would always recommend using a reputed company who are part of the NCCA, whether that be Acorn Carpet Cleaning or one of our other qualified colleagues in the industry.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Our random number generator will then be used to select the winner's number and it will be announced on our Facebook page the Monday after the competition closes.

The winner of our competition will receive two completely free, no strings attached premium carpet cleans. The benefits of everything you could win are shown below. Have a look and see if you can think of a reason not to enter!

The Prize

2 FREE carpet cleans on any rooms up to 20 square metres each

OR

1 FREE upholstery deep clean & 1 FREE carpet clean up to 20 square metres

The Benefits

Premium Service

It might be a free giveaway but that doesn't mean the work should suffer and at Acorn Carpet Cleaning we would never allow it. Every job we undertake whether for £20, £200 or completely free we put our all into the work carried out and if you're the lucky winner of our prize draw then you will see that first hand.

We will come to your property to confirm the size of the carpets, the time we believe it will take, what stains might cause us some hassle and agree with you what furniture, if any, you would like removed from the room for the job to be done. We will move any furniture, other than the TV, that you would like out of the room for when the job is being done and we will put it back upon completion. All part of our standard service!

Customer Care

We'll say it again, it doesn't matter that it's free. If you have allowed us into your home and trusted us with the cleaning of your carpets then you deserve the benefits that every other Acorn Carpet Cleaning customer receives. If you have any special arrangements that need to be made just let us know and we will always try to accommodate. If you need to change the time of the job at short notice, no problem, just give us a call. The customer is number 1 at Acorn Carpet Cleaning and whether you are a new customer, a competition winner or one of our old favourites we will always bend over backwards to ensure you get the best possible service.

A Lasting Effect

So you've had your carpets cleaned. Great! But it's now two weeks later and whilst it still looks a lot cleaner, someone has spilled something in one spot, ruining the overall look of your carpet. Not to worry, if you have had Acorn Carpet Cleaning out to your premises anytime within the last 6 months then you can give us a call and we will come out and sort the stain, totally free of charge. At Acorn Carpet Cleaning we know that if you're going to spend your hard earned money on having your carpets cleaned, you want them to stay that way. But accidents happen in life and we can't always protect against kids, pets and occasionally our own stupidity! That's why if a small stain is catching your eye and ruining your recently cleaned carpet then you shouldn't have to pay for a full clean again. Call us and we will fix the stain as quickly as we can, free of charge.

The not-so-small print

The area subject to the two free carpet cleans must be no bigger than 20 square metres per room (so a total of 40 square metres will be cleaned free of charge) and any upholstery cleaned must be a maximum of a 3 seater sofa and 1 chair. Acorn Carpet Cleaning are unable to remove televisions on behalf of customers for insurance purposes but other than this we will move any and all furniture that you request to be moved - and that's it. Other than that it's a no strings attached, like & share competition and the winner gets two free carpet cleans free of charge, with NO OBLIGATION to have another room cleaned for a charge. Whilst we do have a maximum area we are willing to do free of charge this won't be rigourously enforced. If, in total, your two rooms measure 45 square metres we will of course complete both rooms in full.
