Hot Water Extraction (HWE) is a term you may have come across on our website or in association with carpet cleaning services – but what does it involve and why do many cleaning professionals consider it the most effective way to clean carpets?

HWE involves mixing hot water with gentle detergents, using specialist equipment. This is then injected into the carpet fibres at a high pressure, dislodging the dirt particles and making them easier to clean. The machine has a powerful vacuum that can lift and remove dirt from carpets, as well as 95% of the moisture. HWE can also be used for cleaning upholstery.

What Are the Benefits of Hot Water Extraction?

There are many benefits to using HWE for carpet cleaning. One important benefit is that HWE uses little to no detergents, making it safe for use around children and pets. It is also environmentally-friendly and suitable for people suffering from allergies or asthma. Unlike other popular cleaning methods (i.e. dry or steam cleaning), HWE will leave your carpets and upholstery stain-free and fresh for longer.

Avoid DIY Solutions

While there are services available in Glasgow and Paisley which rent out HWE machines, we recommend contacting a professional instead. This is because rented models often have a much weaker drying power than equipment used by a professional carpet cleaner. As a result, your carpets and upholstery will be damp for days, creating the perfect conditions for mould to grow, as well as an unpleasant damp odour that is hard to get rid of. Rented models also have weaker suction. This means that they are not as effective at removing dirt.
Save yourself time and avoid making costly mistakes by hiring a professional.
In addition to their expertise and experience, a certified carpet technician has access to more powerful equipment and are better able to deliver on a clean carpet that matches (and surpasses) your expectations.

How Often Should You Book A Hot Water Extraction?

Many people assume that they only need to hire a carpet cleaning service in Glasgow and Paisley every few years. While frequency depends on how often the carpet is used (i.e. in commercial environments, carpets are likely to incur a higher level of traffic, and are more prone to general wear and tear than domestic settings), we recommend that all carpets and rugs should receive a proper clean at least once a year. This will prevent its fibres from degrading due to tracked in dirt or becoming infested.
